Christmas and New Year in Crete

This year, for the first time, we plan to be in Crete for Christmas and New Year and wonder what kind of celebrations there are?

Of course many of the tourist places will be closed but we don't mind and are hoping to have a nice quiet break from the cold Scottish weather.
